In America today, fast food and poor dental hygiene seem to go hand in hand. More and more Americans are developing cavities and other dental health problems every day. And, with the current economic crisis, more and more Americans are neglecting going to their dentists on a regular basis. Thus, more and more people are letting their cavities go until they can no longer ignore the pain, which usually means their teeth have to be pulled by that point. And so, more and more people are missing teeth. Though the obvious solution to this problem is to take better care of your teeth and go to your dentist regularly, what if you are one of the multitudes of people already missing teeth? That’s where implant dentistry professionals, located in MAC, Oregon, and all over the country come in.

The implant dentistry professionals in MAC, Oregon, and elsewhere for that matter, can replace your missing teeth and thus help you to regain your self confidence. These professionals are able to do this through dental implants, which are modeled after natural teeth roots. They are metal rods that are inserted in your jaw that dental caps or crowns are then attached to. This design closely resembles the design of natural teeth and their roots and thus enables you to eat and talk normally. In fact, once your implants have healed, you will probably find yourself forgetting that they are not your natural teeth at times.

“It’s Always Easier and Cheaper in the Long Run to Just Do It Right In the First Place”

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Growing up, there was a grandfatherly fellow in our town that adopted all of us as kids as his own.  He would watch us, comment on how we’ve grown, ask us about our family, and often, share a bit of his wisdom.

He had a saying and a story for everything.  I mean everything.

If your hand itched he would say that meant money was coming your way. If you found a penny face up on the sidewalk, it was good luck.  If he saw a certain bird in the area, he told us that meant spring was on its way.

I always remember those sayings as I come across similar things in my life now and the events that promoted him to say it in the first place.

One time, there was a huge pothole in the street in the middle to town.  The road crew would come out and throw some dirt in it and a little asphalt and they would be gone.  After a few months, the hole was back and it was usually much bigger.

They would come back out with their trucks and shovels, throw some more dirt in the hole and lay a little more asphalt.  And once again, they were gone.

My wise mentor would watch each time the crew was out.  He would walk over to them as they worked and strike up a conversation about that pothole and offer his advice on the situation.

The road crew was there so often, they got to know my friend well.  And they would cringe as he walked up because they knew he was about to share his opinion with them if they wanted it or not.

He would ask them why they were there, even though it was obvious, and they would answer.  He would remind them it had only been a few months since they were there doing the same exact thing.  The supervisor would shrug and agree as the old gentlemen continued on.

“Now, don’t you think if you fixed it right, you could save yourself a lot of time and grief”, he said.

“Yeah, but the city wants us to save money so we can only do a patch”, the supervisor replied.

“Well seems to me, you have been here 4 times this year alone.  And you know you will have to be back here in a couple months again.  How can having 3 men waste their time doing the same thing over and over, be saving the city, and the taxpayers for that matter, any money?  Seems to be, It’s Always Easier and Cheaper in the Long Run to Just Do It Right In the First Place.”

I think about his words often.  As a dentist, when I see a patient suffering with a dental problem unnecessarily, it reminds me of the pothole.

Patients rely on me to give them my best treatment. They rely on me to fix it right the first time. And they want me to save them time, energy, as well as money in the long run.  That is my role as their dentist.

For patients who are missing teeth, that is why I recommend dental implants.  Not only do they replace the teeth, but they also stabilize the bite, provide a strong anchor of support for chewing, as well as give the patient back confidence and comfort that they won’t get with any other option.    Dental implants restore so much to a person’s quality of life; it is difficult to even put a figure on it.

Dental implants are the best option for tooth replacement.  It is a wonderful service that we enjoy providing for our VIPs (Very Important Patients!).  And just like my ‘adopted grandfather’, we always have room at our dental home for one more special person if you would like to join us here : http://implantdentistrymcminnville.com

Titanium Implants: A Dental Boon

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Teeth are often ignored when it comes to keeping the body healthy. It is only when there is extreme pain and discomfort that one realises that teeth also need to be taken care of. Sometimes even the pain is ignored out of fear of the dentist. Due to this lack of care and other factors like age or accidents, teeth often fall out leaving gaps which are unsightly.

However technology has advanced even in the dental field and it is now possible to replace missing teeth such that one can’t tell the difference between the real thing and the fake.

This excellence in the dental field has been largely possible due to titanium implants made from titanium alloys specially developed for surgical purposes. This titanium is non-reactive and doesn’t cause any problem when in contact with tissue and bone. In fact it can stay in the body for decades without causing any trouble.

In dentistry, small titanium rods are attached into the jawbone and act as artificial tooth roots. They are given time to fuse with the bone and become stable enough to hold the fake teeth. Titanium implants are also useful in holding dentures, crowns and bridges.

Thus in the dental field titanium implants are very important and bring hope and new smiles to those who want it.

Osseointegrated Dental Implants

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Dental implants are a one-stop answer to replacing missing teeth. This is a permanent solution and more and more people are opting for dental implants. Implants can be used to support crowns, bridges and also dentures.

Almost all dentists are qualified to perform dental implants. They don’t need a special license for it. Of course for more complicated implants dentists often refer you to specialised dentists like maxillofacial surgeons, prosthodontists or periodontists.

The technology of dental implants has improved so much that if the procedure is done well and skilfully, one cannot tell the difference between real teeth and artificial teeth.

The one important reason for dental implants looking so real is the bonding between the implant and the jawbone. This process, in which the artificial insertion adapts to the tissue and bone in the jaw, is called Osseointegration. For this to happen the dentist first inserts a titanium rod in the jawbone on top of which the tooth will be fixed. The rod is given 4-6 months in which to heal and fuse with the jawbone. This allows it to support the fake tooth better and acts like an artificial tooth root.

For Osseointegration to be successful you should give it time to take place. You have to be patient and allow the natural bone to do its job and allow the insertion to set correctly. This will allow the implant to bear the weight and pressure of artificial teeth and also dentures better.

Implant Dentistry Procedure

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Implant Dentistry has really started attracting loads of people towards it but before you really get ready for Implant Dentistry it would be wise to know the procedure involved. In the following section we would like to take you through the major steps that are involved in the process of Implant Dentistry:

The procedure is simple while you remain under anesthesia dental implants are inserted surgically into jaw bone. If you have multiple implants then the procedure would be a bit lengthy.

    When under local anesthesia, the bone would be exposed where the implant is to be done. When the bone is exposed the implant would be placed slowly into your jawbone.

    After the implant is placed, it is followed by a cover screw. There would be a few wounds too, and stitching would close them and would make them heal soon.

    After the completion of the healing process, the cover screw is taken out and the cover of the implant is removed.  There may be a use of a temporary crown in places where the implant gets exposed.

The process is simple but the healing process may be a long one. the healing time varies from 3 to 6 months incase of upper and lower jaw respectively. Make sure that you get implants done from a reputed dentist.

Categories of Dental Implants: Root-Form Implants

Friday, October 31st, 2008

In the vast field of dentistry, the one procedure that is gaining immense popularity is that of dental implants. Implants are giving new hope to those who have lost their teeth due to various reasons. It allows them a chance to have new teeth which are just like real ones and don’t look artificial.

Dental implants are basically fixing artificial tooth roots into the jawbone. These implants are made of titanium and take several months to heal and fuse properly with the tissue and bone. Once this is done, the crown can be fixed so that the missing tooth is replaced. These implants are permanent and require regular care like brushing and flossing.

There are several types of dental implants that can be fixed. One type is the root-form implant (also known as Endosteal implants). This type of implant is fixed directly into the jawbone. Root-form titanium implants can be screw or plate type implants. In both types the implant is first attached to the jawbone and allowed to fuse. After the gum tissue heals, another surgery is performed in which the artificial teeth are fixed.

Root-form titanium implants can be used for individual teeth replacements as well as for several teeth, in which case dentures or bridges are used to fill in the gaps. Whatever the type used, dental implants are successful in returning people’s smiles.

Bridges – bridging the divide between your teeth

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

A dental bridge is more or less like a concrete bridge which connects two landmasses separated by a river or deep valleys. With age or due to tooth decay people lose teeth. Also there are many circumstances in which one has to undergo tooth removal for cosmetic purposes or in order to prevent one or the other kind of infection spreading from one tooth to the other.

Such natural or artificial tooth removal in adults creates an empty space. Now this vacant space in your jaw not only looks bad when you open your mouth but also can lead to several diseases. This is where a dental bridge steps in. A dental bridge is just like a natural tooth with a specially designed crown. Dental bridges can be made from various types of materials and can even be used on the ends of the jaw where there is a supporting tooth only on one side.

Gaps in teeth apart from being visually unattractive also pose certain health issues like increased wearing of teeth, shrinkage of the jawbone, further drifting of the teeth, leaning of the teeth and even misalignment of teeth. Bridges are an effective and cost effective solution and helps effectively control all of the issues listed above with minimal maintenance and care.
